Taxonomy

Diaphanoptera was named by Brongniart (1894). It is the type genus of Diaphanopteridae.

It was assigned to Diaphanopteridae by Handlirsch (1906), Handlirsch (1919), Carpenter (1963), Carpenter (1992), Béthoux and Nel (2003).

Synonyms

Pseudanthracothremma was named by Handlirsch (1906).

It was synonymized subjectively with Diaphanoptera by Lameere (1917), Carpenter (1963), Béthoux and Nel (2003).
Diaphanopterites was named by Handlirsch (1919).

It was synonymized subjectively with Diaphanoptera by Carpenter (1963), Carpenter (1992), Béthoux and Nel (2003).

It was assigned to Diaphanopteritidae by Handlirsch (1919).
Anthracothremma scudderi was named by Brongniart (1894). Its type specimen is MNHN.F.R52937, an exoskeleton (Complete body), and it is an impression. Its type locality is Commentry (MNHN Brongniart coll), which is in a Gzhelian lacustrine deltaic shale in the Commentry Shales Formation of France.

It was recombined as Pseudanthracothremma scudderi by Handlirsch (1906); it was recombined as Diaphanoptera scudderi by Lameere (1917), Carpenter (1963); it was considered a nomen dubium by Béthoux and Nel (2003).
