Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
S. Klug et al. 2010Lonchidiid sharks characterised by minute teeth rarely exceeding 4.0 mm in mesio-distal length and 2.5 mm in height. Dentition is of the clutching-crushing type with a low degree of gradient monognathic heterodonty. All teeth are more or less bilaterally symmetrical. Cusp and lateral cusplets are moderately developed, but not well demarcated, and broadly triangular in labial and lingual views, with an angle of more than 90° defined by the apex and the two points separating the main cusp and the first pair of lateral cusplets. Up to three pairs of cusplets are present, occasionally incipient cusplets accompanying lateral-most pair of cusplets are also present. Crown shoulder is present, lingually broader than labially. Labial protuberance is short and narrow, protruding only slightly anteriorly and not supported by labial root buttress. All teeth are ornamented with irregularly arranged straight and flexuous ridges of various lengths. All teeth display vertical ridges extending labially from the apex of cusp to tip of the labial peg and lingually to the crown shoulder. Additional divergent ridges are present on the lingual cusp face in larger teeth. Horizontal, more or less irregular ridges present labially and lingually, marking the upper limit of the crown shoulder. Crown shoulder devoid of ornamentation. Lateral edges of crown convex, generally overhanging the root. Boundary between crown and root labially straight to slightly concave, lingually distinctly concave. Root shallow and lingually inclined. Labial root face strongly reduced, with a single row of small, rounded foramina. Lingual root face higher with irregular, larger foramina. Basal face of root flat.
