Mixosaurus cornalianus
Taxonomy
Ichthyosaurus cornalianus was named by Bassani (1886). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Besano (MCSN Milan collection), which is in an Illyrian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal dolomite/shale in the Besano Formation of Italy.
It was recombined as Mixosaurus cornalianus by Baur (1887), Merriam (1908), Hay (1930), Callaway and Brinkman (1989), Motani (1999), Motani (1999), Maisch and Matzke (2000), McGowan and Motani (2003), Maisch (2010) and Ji et al. (2016).
