Utahgenys evansi

Taxonomy
Utahgenys evansi was named by Nydam and Fitzpatrick (2009). Its type specimen is MNA V10014, a mandible (right dentary), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is MNA 995, Jimmy Canyon, which is in a Turonian/Turonian terrestrial horizon in the Straight Cliffs Formation of Utah. It is the type species of Utahgenys.

Fitzpatrick 2009Contogeniid species differing from Contogenys sloani, C. ekalakaensis, Palaeosdncosaums middletoni, and P. pharkidodon in having tooth crowns distinctly tricuspid and bearing fewer and more widely spaced apical striae. Differs further from Contogenys sloani and C. ekalakaensis sp. nov. in having an intramandibular septum with small posterior projection (condition not known for either species of Paleoscincosaurus).
