Taxonomy
Ostlingoceras was named by Hyatt (1900) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-m K Ceno-l Sepkoski's reference number: 943]. Its type is Turrilites puzosianus. It is the type genus of Ostlingoceratinae.

It was assigned to Turrilitinae by Förster (1975) and Arkadiev et al. (2000); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Turrilitidae by Atabekyan (1985), Howarth (1985), Kennedy and Cobban (1993) and Kennedy (2005); to Baculitidae by Kennedy and Latil (2007); and to Ostlingoceratinae by Szives (2007).
