Prenkites was named by Arthaber (1911) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Prenkites malsorensis.
It was assigned to Celtitidae by Smith (1927); to Paranannitidae by Spath (1934), Kummel (1969); to Columbitidae by Tozer (1981); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Paragoceratidae by Brayard et al. (2009), Guex et al. (2010).
