Taxonomy

Carolopaulacoutoia was named by McKenna and Bell (1997). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Didelphoidea by de Muizon and Cifelli (2001); to Didelphimorphia by Goin et al. (2006); to Marsupialia by Ladaveze and Muizon (2010); and to Sternbergiidae by Oliveira and Goin (2011).

C. itaboraiensis, Sternbergia waitei

Synonyms

Sternbergia was named by Paula Couto (1970) [non Jordan 1925 (a fish), non Wolburg 1962 (a crustacean) non Miller 1971 (a pterosaur)]. Its type is Sternbergia waitei.

It was synonymized subjectively with Carolopaulacoutoia by McKenna and Bell (1997).

It was assigned to Didelphidae by Carroll (1988).
