Tachydromia was named by Meigen (1803). It is extant.

It was assigned to Tachydromiinae by Meunier (1908); to Empididae by Aldrich (1905), Carpenter (1992); and to Tachydromiini by Sinclair and Cumming (2006), Wahlberg and Johanson (2018).
