Archisargus was named by Rohdendorf (1938). It is the type genus of Archisargidae, Archisargoidea, Archisarginae.
It was assigned to Archisargoidea by Mostovski (1997); to Archisargidae by Rohdendorf (1962), Carpenter (1992), Nagatomi and Yang (1998), Zhang et al. (2007), Grimaldi and Barden (2016); and to Archisarginae by Zhang (2012), Feng et al. (2019).
