Taxonomy
Trichomyia was named by Haliday (1839). It is extant. Its type is Trichomyia urbica. It is the type genus of Trichomyiinae.
It was assigned to Psychodidae by Aldrich (1905), Carpenter (1992), Evenhuis (1994), Solórzano Kraemer (2007); and to Trichomyiinae by Hennig (1972), Stebner and Solórzano Kraemer (2014), Azar et al. (2022), Araújo and Gomes (2023).
