Taxonomy
Hamites quadrinodosus was named by Jimbo (1894). It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Pseudoxybeloceras, Pseudoxybeloceras (Pseudoxybeloceras).

It was recombined as Pseudoxybeloceras (Pseudoxybeloceras) quadrinodosus by Kennedy et al. (2007).
