Taxonomy
Nautilus stephensoni was named by Dickerson (1914) [DISTRIBUTION: Paleocene; California.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP 243, south of Muir Station, which is in a Selandian coastal siliciclastic in the Vine Hill Formation of California.

It was recombined as Eutrephoceras stephensoni by Spath (1927), Miller and Thompson (1933), Vokes (1937), Miller (1947) and Miller and Downs (1950).
