Taxonomy
Aulosteges septentrionalis was named by Etheridge (1907) [Lectotype chosen herein, housed at South Australian Museum]. Its type specimen is SM P2135, a shell (Articulated shell), and it is a mold. Its type locality is Cape Dombey, Port Keats Area, which is in a Wuchiapingian marine horizon in the Upper Marine Beds Formation of Australia.
It was recombined as Megasteges septentrionalis by Archbold (1986), Archbold et al. (1996).
