Herpetocetus transatlanticus
Taxonomy
Herpetocetus transatlanticus was named by Whitmore and Barnes (2008) [Herpetocetus n. sp. of Whitmore 1994: 224, Table 1]. Its type specimen is USNM 182962, a partial skull (partial cranium), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lee Creek Mine, Yorktown Formation, which is in a Zanclean estuary/bay sandstone in the Yorktown Formation of North Carolina.
