Microschiza was named by Gemmellaro (1876) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi K Turo].

It was assigned to Pseudomelaniidae by Allison (1955), Kase (1984); to Purpurinidae by Fischer and Weber (1997); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
