Type specimens:

  • Xestops vagans: YPM 541, a partial skeleton (frontals (lectotype), 3 lower jaw fragments, partial right maxilla, pterygoid, scutes and bone fragments). Its type locality is Grizzly Buttes, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming.
  • Dimetopisaurus wyomingensis: AMNH 3819, an other (left frontal). Its type locality is Hyopsodus Hill, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming.

Ecology: ground dwelling insectivore-carnivore

Distribution:

• Eocene of United States (16: Utah, Wyoming collections)

• Clarkforkian of United States (2: Wyoming)

Total: 18 collections each including a single occurrence
