Type specimens:

  • Nothosaurus mirabilis: BT uncatalogued, a partial skeleton (anterior part of the lower jaw and most of the postcranial skeleton). Its type locality is Oschenberg, near Laineck, which is in a Ladinian marine horizon in Germany.
  • Dracosaurus bronni: MHNP AC.9559 (cast).
  • Nothosaurus bergeri: Its type locality is Molsdorf, Arnstadt, which is in a Longobardian estuary/bay horizon in the Erfurt Formation of Germany.
