Type specimens:
- Compsemys victa: USNM 960, a partial shell (a neural and two costal fragments). Its type locality is Long Lake, which is in a Maastrichtian terrestrial horizon in the Hell Creek Formation of North Dakota.
- Compsemys parva: USNM 6548, a partial shell (shell fragments). Its type locality is Ojo Alamo, which is in a Puercan/Torrejonian terrestrial horizon in the Nacimiento Formation of New Mexico.
- Compsemys puercensis: USNM 8544, a partial shell. Its type locality is Four miles northwest of Kimbetoh, which is in a Puercan terrestrial horizon in the Nacimiento Formation of New Mexico.
- Compsemys torrejonensis: USNM 8549, a shell (nearly complete shell). Its type locality is 8 miles N. 60°E. of Kimbetoh, which is in a Torrejonian terrestrial horizon in the Nacimiento Formation of New Mexico.
- Compsemys vafer: USNM 6551, a partial shell (fragments of shells). Its type locality is Near Ojo Alamo, which is in a Puercan/Torrejonian terrestrial horizon in the Nacimiento Formation of New Mexico.
