Type specimens:

  • Dorygnathus banthensis: PSP 757, a mandible (single lower jaw). Its type locality is Banz, which is in a Toarcian marine chalk/marl in the Posidonia Shale Formation of Germany.
  • Dorygnathus mistelgauensis: Private collection of Dr G. Eicken, Bayreuth, a partial skeleton (Radius, ulna, tibia, fibula, partial scapula, humerus, carpus, metacarpus, wing-phalanx, rib, and caudal vertebra). Its type locality is Mistelgau station brick pit, which is in a Toarcian marine limestone/shale in the Posidonia Shale Formation of Germany.
