Type specimens:

  • Trilophosaurus jacobsi: MNA V3192, a mandible (Mandibular fragment). Its type locality is Placerias Quarry, UCMP A269, which is in a Norian wet floodplain mudstone/claystone in the Chinle Formation of Arizona.
  • Trilophosaurus dornorum: PEFO 31165, a partial skull (Partial maxilla and dentary). Its type locality is Flag Canyon, 1 mile NNE Crystal Forest (PFV 191), which is in a Norian terrestrial mudstone in the Chinle Formation of Arizona.

• Triassic of United States (8: Arizona, New Mexico, Texas collections)
