Sister taxa: Pterosphenus biswasi, Pterosphenus kutchensis, Pterosphenus muruntau, Pterosphenus schweinfurthi, Pterosphenus sheppardi
Type specimen: USNM 4047, a set of vertebrae (consists of about 40 vertebrae). Its type locality is Melvin, southeast of, which is in a Priabonian marginal marine mixed carbonate-siliciclastic in the Yazoo Formation of Alabama.
Ecology: aquatic carnivore
Distribution:
• Eocene of United States (17: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas collections)
• Paleocene of United States (1: New Jersey)
