Sister taxon: Contogenys ekalakaensis

Type specimen: MCZ 3681, a mandible (left dentary). Its type locality is Bug Creek Anthills, which is in a Maastrichtian coarse channel fill sandstone in the Hell Creek Formation of Montana.
