Type specimens:

  • Ischyrocyon gidleyi: AMNH 10671, a partial skeleton (skull and partial skeleton). Its type locality is Skillet Creek, which is in a Miocene terrestrial horizon in Texas.
  • Hadrocyon mohavensis: Its type locality is Iron Canyon (Lower), which is in a Clarendonian terrestrial horizon in the Dove Spring Formation of California.
  • Ischyrocyon hyaenodus: AMNH 10802, a mandible (juvenile mandible with nearly complete dentition).
  • Pliocyon walkerae: Panhandle Plains Historical Society Museum no. 2155, a skull (skull and lower jaws). Its type locality is Adam Risley Ranch, which is in a Miocene fluvial sandstone in Texas.
