Sister taxon: Paramerychyus harrisonensis

Type specimen: AMNH 13813, a partial skull (a "considerably mutilated skull" [Thorpe 1937]; Partial skull with C/(rt.)-M3). Its type locality is American Horse Creek, which is in a Harrisonian terrestrial horizon in the Harrison Formation of South Dakota.

Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore

Distribution: found only at American Horse Creek
