Type specimens:

  • Nanotragulus loomisi: YPM 10330, a partial skull (Palate with upper cheek teeth complete, right lower jaw fairly complete, with six teeth, left with series of four teeth. Detached premolar. Imperfect petrosal?). Its type locality is Big Muddy Creek, which is in an Arikareean terrestrial horizon in Wyoming.
  • Nanotragulus intermedius: MCZ 2103, a skull. Its type locality is Bear Creek Mountain (East), which is in an Arikareean terrestrial horizon in the Harrison Formation of Wyoming.
  • Nanotragulus lulli:
