Type specimens:

  • Dinohippus mexicanus: CIT 3697, a maxilla. Its type locality is Yepomera, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in Mexico.
  • Equus (Dolichohippus) mesamexicanus: FO 571, a tooth (upper left third premolar).
  • Hippotigris ocotensis: Its type locality is Rancho El Ocote (Basal), which is in a Hemphillian fluvial claystone/sandstone in the Rancho Viejo Beds Formation of Mexico.
  • Protohippus muelleri: F. O. 274, a mandible (Fragmento de quijada inferior con 4p - 3m y el fragmento labial del 3p). Its type locality is Rancho El Ocote (Basal), which is in a Hemphillian fluvial claystone/sandstone in the Rancho Viejo Beds Formation of Mexico.
