Sister taxon: Gebrayelichthys vexillarius

Type specimen: MCSN Trieste 12444, a skeleton. Its type locality is Haqel (MCSN Trieste collection), which is in a Cenomanian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal carbonate in Lebanon.
