Sister taxon: Tranatocetus argillarius
Type specimen: NMR9991-16680, a partial skeleton (partial cranium comprising the braincase and ear bones, posterior portions of both mandibles, a fragmentary atlas, and two thoracic vertebrae. Paratype. NMR9991). Its type locality is Pit De Griete, which is in a Tortonian marine sandstone in the Breda Formation of the Netherlands.
Ecology: aquatic carnivore-suspension feeder
Distribution: found only at Pit De Griete
