The specific name, violetae, honours Violeta Arraes de Alencar Gervaiseau former rector of the Universidade Regional do Cariri (URCA), who fosters paleontological studies in this region.

Sister taxa: none

Type specimen: MN 6919–V, a partial skeleton (incomplete carapace, part of the last cervical vertebra, dorsal and caudal vertebrae, right pelvis and femur). Its type locality is Santana do Cariri (general), which is in an Aptian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal shale in the Romualdo Formation of Brazil.

Ecology: amphibious omnivore

Distribution: found only at Santana do Cariri (general)
