Sister taxa: Aphelesia bipartita, Aphelesia margineplicata, Aphelesia plicatodentata, Aphelesia sanctapaulensis, Aphelesia supraoligocaenica

Type specimen: BSPG 2007 X 77, a shell. Its type locality is Gurlarn, which is in a Burdigalian open shallow subtidal marl in Germany.
