Sister taxon: Perochelys lamadongensis

Type specimen: ZMNH M8750, a partial skeleton (articulated skeleton in ventral view, missing the anterior and right three quarters of the skull, lateral half of the right plastron, and a section through the ). Its type locality is Duntu Basin, Hengshan Formation (soft-shelled turtle locality), which is in an Albian lacustrine - small horizon in the Hengshan Formation of China.

Ecology: aquatic piscivore-carnivore

Distribution: found only at Duntu Basin, Hengshan Formation (soft-shelled turtle locality)
