Sister taxa: Shamosminthus tongi, Shamosminthus xiningensis
Type specimen: NHMW 2001z0034/0001/1), a maxilla. Its type locality is Taatsiin Gol, TGR-AB/22, which is in an Oligocene terrestrial mudstone in the Hsanda Gol Formation of Mongolia.
Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore
Distribution:
• Oligocene of Mongolia (21 collections), Turkey (1)
Total: 22 collections each including a single occurrence
