Sister taxa: Apateon dracyi, Apateon flagrifer, Apateon gracilis, Apateon intermedius, Apateon kontheri, Apateon pedestris, Apateon umbrosus, Salamandrella keyseringli
Type specimen: BSP 1929 XI 120, a partial skeleton (skull and anterior ribs). Its type locality is Pfarrwald at Heimkirchen, which is in an Asselian/Sakmarian terrestrial horizon in the Meisenheim Formation of Germany.
Distribution:
• Permian of Germany (4 collections)
