Sister taxa: Apateon caducus, Apateon dracyi, Apateon flagrifer, Apateon gracilis, Apateon kontheri, Apateon pedestris, Apateon umbrosus, Salamandrella keyseringli
Type specimen: NHMS WP656, a skull. Its type locality is Silbergrund near Stutzerbach, which is in a Gzhelian terrestrial horizon in the Mohrenbach Formation of Germany.
Ecology: amphibious carnivore
Distribution: found only at Silbergrund near Stutzerbach
