Sister taxon: Simoliophis libycus

Type specimen: MA RND 11 (neotype), a set of vertebrae (one posterior mid-trunk vertebra). Its type locality is Les Renardières quarry, Tonnay-Charente (B1s), which is in a Cenomanian paralic sandstone in France.
