Sister taxon: Caviocricetus guenekko

Type specimen: MPEF 505, a maxilla (incomplete right maxilla with DP4-M3). Its type locality is Southern Cliff of lower Chubut River Valley, near Gaiman, which is in a Colhuehuapian paralic mudstone in the Sarmiento Formation of Argentina.

Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore

Distribution:

• Miocene of Argentina (7 collections)

Total: 7 collections each including a single occurrence
