Sister taxa: Heliscomys gregoryi, Heliscomys hatcheri, Heliscomys macdonaldi, Heliscomys ostranderi, Heliscomys senex, Heliscomys vetus

Type specimen: LACM 153717, a tooth (lower p4). Its type locality is Simi Valley Landfill, which is in a Duchesnean terrestrial horizon in the Sespe Formation of California.

Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore

Distribution: found only at Simi Valley Landfill
