Belongs to Cobitis according to M. Böhme 2008
Sister taxa: Cobitis centrochir, Cobitis cephalotes, Acanthopsis angustus
Type specimen: SMF P 9735, a partial skull (a single left lateroethmoid). Its type locality is Oberleichtersbach, which is in a MP 30 sinkhole siliciclastic in Germany.
Ecology: nektonic omnivore
Distribution: found only at Oberleichtersbach
