Sister taxa: Gavialis browni, Gavialis gangeticus, Gavialis lewisi, Gavialis priscus
Type specimen: ‘Collectie Dubois,’ Naturalis, Nationaal Natuurhistorisch Museum, Leiden, a skull. Its type locality is Trinil, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in Indonesia.

• Quaternary of Indonesia (8 collections), Thailand (1)
