Type specimens:

  • Homoeosaurus maximiliani: Meyer 1847 holotype (no number given; since lost). Neotype: IPHG no. AS I 565, a partial skeleton (Holotype and neotype both partial skeletons). Its type locality is Compsognathus type, Kapfelberg (BSP), which is in a Kimmeridgian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal limestone in the Painten Formation of Germany.
  • Homoeosaurus jourdani: Its type locality is Cerin, Jura, which is in a Kimmeridgian terrestrial horizon in France.
