Sister taxa: Hsisosuchus chowi, Hsisosuchus dashanpuensis

Type specimen: IVPP V703-V704, a partial skeleton (skull and dermal scutes). Its type locality is Tatienwan building foundation, Fotoukwan, which is in a Jurassic terrestrial horizon in China.
