Sister taxa: Chengyuchelys latimarginalis, Chengyuchelys zigongensis

Type specimen: CMNH C.996 (IVPP V708 in Young & Chow, 1953 and Danilov and Parham 2008), a partial shell. Its type locality is Tatienwan building foundation, Fotoukwan, which is in a Jurassic terrestrial horizon in China.

Distribution: found only at Tatienwan building foundation, Fotoukwan
