Sister taxa: Progyrolepis heyleri, Progyrolepis speciosus

Type specimen: MCZ 6619, a partial skull. Its type locality is Progyrolepis tricessimalaris-type locality, Rattlesnake Canyon, which is in an Autunian terrestrial claystone in the Admiral Formation of Texas.
