Sister taxon: Largocephalosaurus qianensis

Type specimen: Wuhan Institute of Geology and Mineral Recourses (WIGM) SPC V 1009, a skeleton (a nearly complete and articulated skeleton (more than 113 cm in length), with most part of the tail missing). Its type locality is Luoping area, upper member of Guanling Formation limestone (middle Anisian), which is in a Pelsonian marine limestone in the Guanling Formation of China.

Distribution: found only at Luoping area, upper member of Guanling Formation limestone (middle Anisian)
