Type specimens:

  • Thalassiodracon hawkinsii: BMNH 2018* (lectotype), a skeleton (almost complete skeleton missing distal parts of limbs). Its type locality is Street (general), which is in a Hettangian shallow subtidal limestone/shale in the Blue Lias Formation of the United Kingdom.
  • Plesiosaurus eleutheraxon: CAMSM J.35181, a set of postcrania (partial postcranial skeleton). Its type locality is Street (general), which is in a Hettangian shallow subtidal limestone/shale in the Blue Lias Formation of the United Kingdom.
  • Plesiosaurus etheridgei:
  • Plesiosaurus etheridgii: GSM 51235, a skeleton (nearly complete skeleton missing portions of limbs). Its type locality is Cree's Quarry, Street (bed 30), which is in a Rhaetian/Hettangian carbonate limestone in the White Lias Formation of the United Kingdom.
