Sister taxon: Sangiorgioichthys valmarensis

Type specimen: MCSNIO P457, a skeleton. Its type locality is Rio Vallone, Viggiù, Monte San Giorgio, which is in a Longobardian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal limestone in the Meride Formation of Italy.
