Sister taxa: Proterosuchus alexanderi, Proterosuchus fergusi, Proterosuchus goweri

Type specimen: IVPP RV 36315, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Fuyuan, S. Santai, Talungkou, which is in an Induan terrestrial claystone in the Jiucaiyuan Formation of China.
