Type specimens:

  • Cymatholcus schucherti: USNM 4046, a partial shell. Its type locality is Melvin, southeast of, which is in a Priabonian marginal marine mixed carbonate-siliciclastic in the Yazoo Formation of Alabama.
  • Cymatholcus longus: CM 11891 (holotype), a partial skeleton (partial shell and associated limb elements). Its type locality is Hoot Owl Canyon, which is in a Duchesnean terrestrial sandstone in the Duchesne River Formation of Utah.

Ecology: aquatic omnivore

Distribution:

• Eocene of United States (2: Alabama, Utah collections)

Total: 2 collections each including a single occurrence
