Sister taxon: Palaeoscincosaurus middletoni

Type specimen: OMNH 33855, a mandible (left dentary). Its type locality is OMNH V9, Wahweap Creek, which is in a Campanian terrestrial horizon in the Kaiparowits Formation of Utah.
