Sister taxon: Istiodactylus sinensis

Type specimen: BMNH R176, a partial skeleton (incomplete skull, axial skeleton, wings). Its type locality is Brook (Fox collection) [PROXY], which is in a Barremian terrestrial horizon in the Wessex Formation of the United Kingdom.
